Critical points

Image
Installation:
  • Solar panel, battery, temperature and relative humidity, global radiation and rain gauge are direct at the system => no long cable for this sensors.
  • Wind speed and Wind direction are with 3 m cable => mounting at the top of the post
  • Soil temperature with 5 m cable => it has to go to ground
  • Leaf wetness with 5 m cable => it has to go to the tree or vine

Convection cup and global radiation sensor are mounted on top of the holder.
They are dismounted during transportation and have to be mounted after unpacking.

Image

The wind direction sensor should point to north.

Image

Holder is mounted with 2 clamps at the post. This gives a distance between post and antenna of 43 cm. What minimizes the shadow made by the post on the radio signal from the GSM antenna

The solar panel should be exposed to south on northern hemisphere. If this correct the global radiation sensor will be sun exposed too.

Mount the leaf wetness sensor with the cable tie that comes with the system in the tree or vine. It should be wetted with the first rain and it should dry up with the leafs.!

Distance between Air temperature and relative humidity sensor and the ground should be approximately 2m.

Starting with iMETOS Requirements: Valid GPRS contract allowing use of SMS, good GSM coverage on site, Pin code deactivated
Starting iMETOS: input SIM card, connect it to lead acid battery
Send an SMS with the settings for APN (Access Point Name), Username and Password for the GPRS Conection
Starting operation with http://www.metos.at/fieldclimate.html:(external link) rename the system, change the personal password, input position and local time, sign up for optional operations

Preparation

Check the SIM card with a mobile Phone

  • To see if it starts without SIM-PIN request. If not use the security settings of the mobile phone to switch off the SIM-PIN request.
  • To see if it can receive SMS messages. If not you have to use a different SIM Card in the iMETOS to receive the sMS message.
  • To see if it can send SMS messages. This is only needed if you like to use an iMETOS SMS alert service.
  • To see if it can connect to the internet. If your mobile phone uses GPRS internet connection this is the easiest way to prove this.
Send an SMS with the APN Username and Password when needed
  • You need the serial number of the iMETOS i.e. 00000D1C
  • You need the telephone number of the SIM card you use in the iMETOS to receive the SMS
  • If you use a SIM card from a mobile phone which has been in use please delete all saved SMS messages from this SIM card upfront
  • Enter the SIM card into the iMETOS
  • Send an SMS with the message:
  • ! serialNb 0 apn,username,password !
  • ! 00000D1C 0 gprs.zain.bn,, !

Blinking code

Image

  • Connect to power
    • GSM LED on or fast blinking, iMETOS LED short, off
  • GSM connected
    • GSM LED short, long, off
    • iMETOS LED short, short, long off
  • TCP/IP connected
    •  GSM LED short, short, short
    •  iMETOS LED short, short, short, off
  • Test successful
    •   GSM LED short, long, short
    •   iMETOS LED short, short, short, short
    •  no led on
  • Test not successful
    •  iMETOS LED blinks continous

Blinking code on Error 1

  • Connect to power
    • GSM LED on or fast blinking, iMETOS LED short, off
  • Test not successful
    •  iMETOS LED blinks continous

Reasons for this behavior

  • No SIM card
  • SIM Pin request is active
  • SIM not active
  • No GSM coverage
  • Wrong GSM Frequencies

Blinking code Errors 2

  • Connect to power
    • GSM LED on or fast blinking, iMETOS LED short, off
  • GSM connected
    • GSM LED short, long off
    • iMETOS LED short, short, long off
  • Test not successful
    • iMETOS LED blinks continuous
Reasons for this behavior
  • GPRS on SIM card not active
  • No GPRS on Site
  • APN, Username and Password not known by iMETOS  (Send SMS with this information)

 Blinking Code on Error 3

  • Connect to power
    • GSM LED on or fast blinking, iMETOS LED short, off
  • GSM connected
    • GSM LED short, short, off
    • iMETOS LED on
  • TCP/IP connected
    •  GSM LED short, short, short
    •  iMETOS LED short, short, short, off
  • Test not successful
    •  iMETOS LED blinks continous

Reasons for this behavior

  • iMETOS could not upload all data in one communication, it will continue later
  • Server not available, try later agin
  • Network respond to slow, contact PI
Communication Trouble Shooting No SIM card, SIM not active, No GSM coverage GPRS on SIM card not active, No GPRS on Site
  • Negotiate with your provider or find a better provider for this site
SIM Pin request is active
  • Put the SIM card into a mobile phone and swithc of the Pin request, you can find it under security settings.
Wrong GSM Frequencies
  • Only where more than 3 frequencies
  • Frequencies have to be selected by the terminal program with the iMETOS on USB-cable in the terminal mode of the iMETOS

APN, Username and Password not known by iMETOS

  • An SMS with the settings for APN, Username and Password has to be send to the iMETOS
  • The SMS has the following content:
  •  ! SerialNr 0 APN,USERNAME,PASSWORD !
Registering the iMETOS in the Internet Short after starting up the iMETOS contacts http://www.metos.at/fieldclimate(external link) and registers itself with its serial number. From now it operates with a default time setting and a default position information. Its registered name is its serial number. The new iMETOS user can access http://www.metos.at/fieldclimate(external link) with a default user name and a default password he gets with the iMETOS.
  • The new iMETOS user has to input correct position and timezone information.
  • The new iMETOS user can input a common name for the iMETOS
  • The new iMETOS user can change his user name and his password
  • The new iMETOS user can register for services like disease models or frost warning
  • The new iMETOS user can select the uploading schedule
All settings in http://www.metos.at/fieldclimate(external link) are done by a standard internet browser. Therefore no special software is needed to operate the iMETOS.
